New Years... but Make it Every 4 Months
In 5 months I…
Moved back to Ontario
Went solo backpacking through all of Chile
Turned 23
Began teaching at a new studio
Started a new job
And that's just the main events!
I share this as it is a common ritual to set goals for our year every January 1. New Years is typically the only time we take to review and discuss our yearly goals and then truthfully… not really look at them again.
Looking back at the goals I set prior to my move back home, almost all of them have slightly if not completely changed in some way or another… and that is OKAY. We are allowed to change our goals.
I feel like when setting one massive set of goals at the beginning of each year we are more likely to not stick to them or get very upset at ourselves if we slip up. We have it ingrained in our minds that the only time we can try again or reset will be on January 1st. Well… there goes the other X amount of months you could have been trying to set out towards your goals again.
Just as businesses have their quarterly targets and reviews, what if we did that with ourselves on a micro level? A little check-in: what do we want to achieve in the next 4 months and how can we make that happen?
This allows us to have a reset with ourselves if we need one, and build on our current progress if we are on the right track!
As May approaches, I am setting goals specific to my next 4 months and I will have my next check in with myself in August. I hope this inspires you to do the same (and if you feel like you need more than 3 check-ins a year- GO FOR IT, just remember progress doesn’t happen overnight!)
